Earthly News is committed to correcting material errors promptly and transparently. We do not remove or silently alter significant errors when a correction notice is the appropriate remedy.
What may require a correction
A correction may be appropriate for a material error involving:
•A person’s name, title, identity, or affiliation
•A date, location, number, statistic, or event description
•A quotation or its meaning
•The source or attribution of information
•A product specification or safety-relevant detail
•A link, image caption, or piece of context that changes the meaning of the article
•An allegation presented as established fact
•Any other significant factual inaccuracy
Minor spelling, punctuation, formatting, or style changes that do not affect meaning may be fixed without a correction note. When in doubt, we prefer transparency.
How to request a correction
1.The article URL
2.The specific statement that may be incorrect
3.The proposed correction
4.A reliable source or supporting evidence
5.Your name and contact information
Anonymous reports may be reviewed, but providing contact information helps us verify the concern and ask follow-up questions.
A correction request is not automatically accepted. We assess the evidence, review the original material, and may contact the writer or relevant parties before deciding what action is appropriate.
Types of editorial updates
Depending on the issue, we may:
•Correct the text and add a correction note
•Add an editor’s note explaining a substantial change
•Add an update note for new information that does not correct an error
•Clarify wording that could reasonably be misunderstood
•Remove unsupported material
•Replace or remove an image or caption
•Retract an article when it is substantially unreliable or cannot be corrected adequately
Correction notices
A correction notice should briefly state what was wrong and what has been corrected. It should not obscure the original error or use vague language when a clear explanation is possible.
Example:
Correction: An earlier version of this article stated that the event took place on June 12. It took place on June 13. The article has been corrected.
For a major correction, we may include the date and time of the change and explain how the error occurred when that information is useful to readers.
Retractions
If an article contains serious fabrication, plagiarism, a fundamentally false premise, or errors that make the article unreliable, Earthly News may retract it. A retraction should preserve a record of the article’s existence where appropriate and explain the reason for the action.
We do not remove accurate reporting solely because a subject dislikes the coverage or because facts have become inconvenient. Requests to remove personal information, legal threats, privacy concerns, or safety issues are reviewed separately and may require additional action.
Response time
We aim to acknowledge correction requests within a reasonable period. Urgent matters involving public safety, health, or serious allegations receive priority. Review time may vary depending on the complexity of the claim and the availability of reliable evidence.
